I am pursuing a degree as a Nurse so that I may make a positive contribution to society by teaching people that making healthy choices today can have a positive impact on their future. I want to help people gain the knowledge they need to live well, make healthy choices, and understand the importance in preventative care. I plan to focus on all age groups, but with emphasis on parents and children. These fundementals are necessary to be modeled by the population of adults, so that the population of children will naturally learn healthy habits to promote health, vitality, and lifelong wellness. Lets carry on a healthy legacy!

ART 1050- Promoting Environmental Sustainability-Reflection
My newest mission: To spread awareness of Responsibility for the Environment, Educating our youth to develop healthier habits for the future, Promoting the modeling of healthier choices and behaviors by adults, and taking personal responsibility for my own actions. We can make this world a better place, one choice at a time. Each person can make a difference. Our children are the future and persevering our world for our legacy to carry on is something that is often overlooked or neglected. It was my objective with my final project in this photography class, to use photography to shine light on this issue that I feel strongly about, spreading awareness and a sense of urgency for others to feel the need to take action as well. Just three simple steps to a cleaner future to focus on are: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
When I began this photography class, I did not know what to expect. After the first few classes, I realized that there was a whole lot more to photography than just pointing a camera and taking a shot. Photography is an art, and with art comes patients, diligence, and practice. I realize that I have a long way to go with my hobby of photography, but I also am aware that this beginning photography class has given me a firm foundation to which I can build on. I have gained so much from this course and learning how to manipulate aperture, shutter speed, and exposure. I have a good understanding of composition that I am still working on developing. I enjoy challenging myself with lighting manipulation, depth of field, figure ground relationship, as well as the use of filters and reflectors. I look forward to building on the skills that I have obtained from this course in my future.
In relation to Photography being an art, I believe that one of the most important things I have taken from this course, is that Photography affects everything. It affects the way we visualize our world, the way we communicate, the way we see ourselves, and the way we see others. It has the ability to touch the hearts of those who see as well as open the eyes of those who are blind to issues. Photography is also strong enough to mislead and manipulate if it is abused in a manner to do so. Overall, photography is a tool that could be utilized in any field of study. It preserves our most precious memories, and it is a form of documentation as well. Photography really truly does affect everyone.
I chose the four photos above, because they signify the purpose of my final project. First, The picture of the Voss water bottle sitting on the table being reused brings peace of mind when looking off into the distance of the picture, at the future, my very own child. Then second and the third picture capture the beauty of the Landfill. It is a reminder that we must look deeper than the surface to really take care of the issues that we are posing for our future. It reminds us that we are continuously coming up with new innovative ideas for a cleaner and more efficient way of recycling waste. The fourth picture signifies Educating Our Youth. Must I say anymore.
